A newborn baby probably isn’t able to rescue a dog from a burning building. It can’t even walk yet, so how can something so small be able to save someone? Against all laws and rules, a baby has saved her mother’s life.
As soon as the baby, Rylan, was born, her mother fell in a coma. The doctors had tried everything to wake Shelly up, but to no avail. The longer time passed, the more crucial her condition became. "I was a mess. I was numb. I didn't know what to think anymore," Jeremy said, Shelly’s husband.
But Ashley Manus, came up with an idea. She thought that the skin-to-skin contact between mother and daughter might wake Shelly up. "I was hoping somewhere deep down, Shelly was still there and could feel her baby, hear her baby and her mother's instincts would come out and she would realize, 'This is where I need to be.' "

Seeing none had a better idea, they brought Rylan to her mother. Jeremy said the connection for Rylan was instant. She fell asleep as soon as she lay on her mother’s chest. Slowly, but surprisingly quickly, her mother began to wake up.
After a week her mother was fully awake and could hold her daughter for the first time.
